Red Cross Safe Family Day activities are part of the effort to raise awareness of the lifesaving services provided by the York-Adams County Chapter and to encourage people to become actively involved in furthering the humanitarian mission of the American Red Cross. Held in the center court of a local shopping mall, volunteers provide important information regarding vital American Red Cross programs and services to our community free of charge. Safe Family Day activities include interactive demonstrations of safety techniques such as CPR & First Aid, 911-practice calling, bandaging techniques, and much more. Click here to nominate a hero for the 2010 event!

The concept for the Heroes of York-Adams County Breakfast, now in its 7th year, has grown out of a desire to develop an event that is closely related to the mission of the American Red Cross—teaching people to save lives.

The Red Cross provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies. This is done through the simple, yet powerful, process of one person putting their needs aside to help another. What better way to celebrate this spirit of humanitarianism than by honoring those individuals who have shown courage, kindness, and unselfish character by their acts of heroism in our York-Adams area communities.

Awards will be given in nine categories: Community Impact, Fire Fighter, Law Enforcement, Medical, 911 Dispatch, Adult Good Samaritan, Youth Good Samaritan, Military and Animal Rescue.  A Heroes Nomination Committee of community leaders will select the winners. Use of Red Cross training is not required for nomination. Awards will be presented at the breakfast to be held October 28, 2010.
