Blood Drive Volunteers

Blood Drive Volunteers play an important role within the American Red Cross.  As a volunteer, you assist in the greeting, processing, recruitment and care of the blood donors.  You are the first person the donors meet when they come to give blood, and you are the last person they see as they leave the site.  We rely on your abilities as a volunteer to show courtesy, warmth and commitment to excellence to our donors so they feel appreciated and return to donate again.  The American Red Cross considers you, the volunteer, to be one of the most valuable resources.

Do I qualify?
A Blood Drive Volunteer enjoys working with people and is willing to work as part of a team.  The volunteer understands and maintains the confidentiality of the donors and has a commitment and desire to provide quality professional care and service to blood donors.  Blood Drive Volunteers must be fourteen years of age or older.

What are the typical hours of a blood drive?
A blood drive usually lasts four to six hours, but volunteers may chose to work once a week, twice a month, or more frequently.  A volunteer's schedule is flexible and can be arranged according to personal needs or geographic area.  The minimum commitment is twice a month.

What are my responsibilities as a Blood Drive Volunteer?
There are many different types of Blood Drive Volunteers, all who may provide different services during a blood drive.  Some of these services include: greeting and signing in donors, serving refreshments, observing donors for post-donation reactions, assisting nursing staff, aiding in recruiting donors for upcoming drives and providing bilingual translating services.

Blood Drive Volunteers attend American Red Cross orientation and service training.  They use each opportunity to become more knowledgeable about Blood Services to provide quality service to the blood donors.  Positive attitudes create a friendly atmosphere; your best accessory is a smile!
